Gotta Go!

Roxanne came by recently to see the progress on the bungalow. She was very disappointed when she realized that neither of the bathrooms were completed. You see, she had to go! I realized then that I better quit procrastinating and get these bathrooms done right away! The ensuite upstairs next to the bedroom was going to be the fastest to get done, so in the interest of helping Roxanne, I got to it ~Q~U~I~C~K~!

You'll remember that before I moved on to the kitchen I had already installed the lighting, wallpaper, shower, floor tiles and made up the vanity. So it looked like this. That post was called Beachside Bungalow Bathroom.

Before I could pick up where I left off, I had to address that pesky bathroom light bulb that would not stay on. There was nothing to it but unscrewing the shade, unscrewing the bulb, scraping off a little crusty debris from the threads  (it was an old Heidi Ott fixture I bought in a lot on eBay a couple years ago) and then screwing it back in. Now the light is steady and reliable! It's such a relief when a repair is that simple!

I installed the john first and Roxanne got to christen it. She said it worked just dandy, and she was hugely relieved! It might be just a little tall, though. It is from this Houseworks resin set. It might be just perfect when the girls are wearing heels.

Now I could begin adding in the necessities and décor. I added hygiene items to the shower, a towel bar and towels (made from dollar store baby wash cloths), beachy wall plaques, hooks on the door, the vanity with filled baskets, soap jar, candle, hand lotion, a fancy shell, a mirror, a fan vent (on the ceiling) and a nautical shelf with a boat and buoys that I printed on the 3D printer.

The ensuite bathroom is officially open for business!

There is even a line to get in!

Before I go patting myself on the back too vigorously, I still have another bathroom to finish. And that one, being roughly 3" x 4" is a challenge! I'll need the help of my entire "machine park" and some clever thinking to pull it off!

Oh one last note - I had forgotten last week to show the utility side of the house and how I disguised the bedroom's lamp wire exiting through the wall. It's not completely hidden, but it looks like many real life houses do and that's okay with me. I just secured the wire with glue and then painted over it with the house color. If I want further camouflage, a climbing vine might work.

Here's to always having a bathroom in good working order when you need it!

xo xo,

Jodi

    1. Thanks Alex! It was so much fun to get to try out so many ideas in such a small space! It's a bit nautical "overboard" but I couldn't resist! If I had a beach house I'd have to have a few rooms that were over the top fun!

  3. Avast me hearties!!!! I second Alexandra's compliments to you on the tiles, Jodi; they give such a Happy Vibe to this tiny space and not only that, the colour changes in the shower remind me of a land masses and water! 🏄‍♀️ The pattern above are like bubbles and the stripes and solid flooring- compliment both to a "T". Getting the proportions right with each pattern was the key, and in any other configuration, it may not have come off so well, but yours IS 100% PERFECT! AND I think it was a Fab Idea to pick up stripes from the bedroom for behind the vanity- Totally Pro!
Also must comment on the Nautical shelf unit- I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT as well as the spacious vanity and the Mirror AND the towels! Again, echoing Alexandra, It's such a Beautiful little room which I would line up to wait for, too! 🤩

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! I am so glad you like the bathroom! I went a little whimsical in here, but it was so much fun to indulge in! The stripes remind me of kelp forests and the bubbles a fish tank, lol! The scrapbook paper pack that inspired this project gave me so many options, and really a cheat sheet as to the color combos. The high ceilings were an opportunity to add the two different paper patterns, and helped to lighten up the space as you look up. I am so happy that you'd like a turn in the space, and you would move right to the front of the line!

  5. Oh Jodi, your "gotta go" made me laugh. It reminded me, of the time when we lived in Colombia, there a guest bathroom is named in Spanish "bano de emergencia" (The emergency bathroom).
I love how you used the limited space and turned it up into a lovely bathroom.
    Hugs,

    1. Ha ha! That is so funny, Drora! Russ and I, having been married for 35 years now, say we really don't need a retirement home with two bathrooms, just two toilets, lol! I'm so glad that you like how the bathroom turned out!

  7. I guess this is a lesson. Even if we are furnishing a project for a doll, we should make the bathroom functional first 😉. I am always amazed at how much detail you are able to add, even in tiny spaces. It looks great.

  8. Oh, how fun. Why is it always all the details that make it so much fun, and I love the color scheme, so bright and cheery. I have yet to tackle light fixtures on walls, but I have installed some fab overhead in the 1:6 scale buildings I work with! Fun POST!

    1. Thanks Sandi! The wall fixtures on this house were especially challenging because of the pre-milled siding. Hopefully when you venture into your first set you can more easily camouflage the wires when they exit the wall, lol! You'll do a beautiful job no matter what the challenges!

  9. It looks wonderful! I really love the little hanging hook/shelves and the sailboat is gorgeous.

Oh, the toilet might only look too high because technically she's sitting on the lid not the seat.

I am too short for a lot of toilets, too, but it's just fine if you like to swing your legs, lol!

Será más difícil sorprender a alguien con el tocador, ya que no hay mucho espacio para hacer nada más que negocios allí, ¡jejeje!

  12. Oh, what a wonderful post! ;O) And thanks for giving me a broad smile... and teaching me some new expressions; you know I always love to learn new stuff in English. I'm really going to save this awesome sentence: "I installed the john first and Roxanne got to christen it." My, I got so old and never knew that all poor Johns out there are dealing with this special double meaning of their name... *LOL*

You've proved once more that you're one of the most darling ladies out there... helping Roxanne out with her emergency case. *grin* And you even managed not only to install the bare necesseties... once more you gave an awesome example of your outstanding skills in decorating a room. Every accessory and every detail is just perfect because they are functional and beautiful. The atmosphere of this wonderful bathroom has always been very special due to its cheerful and colorful tiles etc. but now with the decoration it became even more awesome. Queue up a bit more, girls... I want to join the line and say hi to John. ;O)

    1. Thanks Birgit! It's a great feeling to know in addition to entertaining my readers, there is some education mixed in once in a while, too! We have many, many names for the toilet in the U.S., as I am sure you creative Germans do too! It would be fun to compare them all sometime!

I am so glad that you like how the bathroom turned out! I am so happy that all the ideas I've had floating around in my head for the past several years came together in a cohesive way! I am really having a lot more fun with this project than I expected too, and that feels like salve for the soul. I know you know what I mean. Big hugs, my friend!

  14. When you gotta go, you gotta go! It is as simple as that. It may have been a little unpleasant for Roxanne but luckily she did not have to wait too long.

But what a result! the wait has helped to produce thes wonderful little rooms! The shelf with the nauticul theme really finishes the bathroom off. I have said it before when you worked on this beach house, but the choice of colours is not something I would (have dared) to choose, but how well it works together! So vibrant and lively, yet never loud.

This house deserves an article in a magazine here or there.

    1. It's true, and where to go when you've gotta go has caused many a person anxious moments! If we're ever across cups of tea together, I'll share a few stories that will make you laugh yourself right out of your chair!

Thanks so much for your kind words, Huibrecht! One of the best parts of being in a mini community is seeing ideas from others that we'd never think to do! It brings new things out of our imaginations! I'm so happy you like this whimsical, nautical bethroom!
