Barbie Dreams Across The Generations

Hello Friends!

Just quickly popping in to say that Russ and I are okay - we just got hit with the nasty RSV bug and have been isolating at home for the entire month trying to get better. We are on the mend now, but this virus really takes its time exiting! We are hoping to attend family festivities to celebrate Christmas together, masked just in case, this weekend. I hope all of you have managed to escape the "Tripledemic" this year!

Bohemian Townhouse 1974

I wanted to share a fun article by The New York Times called "A Six Decade Tour Of Barbie's Dreamhouses". Most of us who love minis have intersected at some point in our lives with the world of Barbie. The amazing photos of the Dreamhouses in the article bring back such fond memories. They may even trigger a little longing for the ones we never got to play with! I was the proud owner of the Bohemian Townhouse, a hand me down from my neighbor friend across the street when she got the Dream House. That elevator was so cool and fun to play with! And the furniture (I had the blow up sofa and loveseat), were so neat!

Barbie Dream House 1979

To those of you with grandkids who love Barbies and can play with them and their modern structures - I am so jealous!!! Enjoy them! For those, like me, who can only reminisce, enjoy the article!

I want to wish each of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and joy in all the things you celebrate. We made it through another tough year, and in spite of the hardships, have so much to be grateful for! I'll see you all in the New Year to share and inspire creativity in this miniature passion that we all love so much!

xo xo,

Jodi

  1. I had both of those houses at one point. I loved my Dreamhouse! Mine was in yellow. I have Christmas photos of my blurry eyed dad trying to assemble it the night before.....According to my Mom he was helping Santa.;) I know it is often said that Christmas is for kids, but I loved it more as a parent.

When I was a first year pediatric nurse I caught RSV and every other virus. RSV is no joke! I hope you can recover in time for New Years!
    Merry Christmas Jodi.

  3. Dear Jodi,
I hope that you feel better soon! And thank you for sharing that article, it was very interesting. While I never had barbies myself, I did enjoy playing with the houses my friends had :-)
Feel better and happy holidays to you,
    Julia

  7. Oh Barbie! Such an icon! A friend had the Bohemian house and mine was very similar to that second one, but smaller. I do still have it, but the plastic degraded over the years and it now sits tucked away in my garden!! I don’t know what RSV is but whatever keeps you down for a month must be terrible. Glad you are better now, and hope you have a safe and happy holiday.

  8. UGH. So sorry to hear that you have been ill. Gerald and I were down last week, so needless to say we are a bit behind for Christmas. Not RSV, just a bad cold. I have that house--1979. I've hung on to my daughter's all these years. Have a MerryChristmas and a wonderful celebration with your family.

  10. I'm so sorry to hear you and Russ caught one of those nasty bugs bothering almost everybody. Around here I came to the conclusion that whatever type the virus may be it means 14 days of feeling very, very sick. My fingers are crossed for you both to feel better by now and that you will be able to meet your family. I've talked to my cousin on the phone today who lives with her parents in the same house, she said she will spend Christmas in family lockdown while her parents, her sisters and their families will celebrate upstairs in her parents rooms. Gifts will be exchanged by lying them in front of the door and Sabrina was looking forward to find the Christmas meal there too... ;O) Well, you need to make the best out of the situation...

It made me smile to remember those Barbie days and to hear about all the lucky ones with Dream Houses. My Barbie Dream House came along in the shape of two big cardboxes *LOL* - but then came that very special Christmas when I received the Barbie Camper! Hooray!!! But even better than any Barbie house was the stable my Dad built for me and my Breyer horses. It would be so wonderful to have it still... but some young doofus (I'm not telling names, only that much, the name of this silly kid starts with a B) went to bed without turning on the lights and instead of falling in the bed she fell into the stable which stood behind the bed's top... *censored comments* After this I had to wear a very fashionable neck collar, the stable was in pieces as if Godzilla had visited it and my Dad did not want to take more risks for his daughter by building a new one... *grin*

I'm wishing to you and yours Merry Christmas and I'm looking forward to see you here back again in 2023 with new eye candy and full of inspiration and creativity.

    Hugs
    Birgit

  13. I hope you and Russ are feeling better by this time. It's just lousy to be sick around the holidays and have to stay away from people.
I remember wanting either of those houses so badly and being thrilled when I got the Barbie Motorhome for Christmas.
