You'll Need:
Satin Glazing Liquid
Oak Gel Stain
Honey Brown Acrylic Paint
Cafe Au Lait colored Acrylic Paint
Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint
Paper Plate
Paint Brushes Including a Fan Brush
Paper Towel
First cut bristles out of a fan brush to create random sized gaps.
Paint a base coat of honey colored acrylic paint. I used chipboard but real wood would work just as well. Once dry, sand smooth.
Now you'll need your glaze, burnt umber and your fan brush.
Squirt a small amount of paint and glaze onto the paper plate.
Dip the tips of the fan brush bristles into the glaze.
Then dip them into the burnt umber. Pounce off excess onto the paper plate.
Starting at the top edge of your piece, drag the fan brush down. I had to refill and continue my lines several times. I tried many techniques until I liked the results. See my varying styles below. Let dry fully before going on to the next step,
Repeat the process, this time using the café au lait colored paint. Let dry completely.
Now it's time for stain. Using a paintbrush, apply stain in smooth, even strokes. You can wipe with a paper towel if needed, but I just left my stain full strength but light. If you use the same brand of stain as I did, there is already a nice sheen once dry so varnish is not necessary.
Experiment with different colors or textures and let me know how yours turned out!
Have fun!
