Slightly Out Of Season...

Hello my friends! Hope this post finds you enjoying all of the things your particular season has to offer!

As many of you in the northern hemisphere know, August in the northwest region of the United States means hot weather. This year is no exception! So in-between short weekend explorations into the forest, I've been keeping busy with very cool and out of season thoughts.

Like the smell of baking gingerbread, the blast of cold air as you step out the front door and Bing Crosby's memory evoking voice...

It has taken many hours just to get the hutch finished up for the Sweet Christmas Cottage kitchen, and there are many fun and challenging hours yet to come until I can call that room complete.

Everything takes me longer than it should, but with luck, I will have the stamina to complete it. Hopefully in time to enjoy the little cottage for the real Christmas season.

Next post, I shall endeavor to have more to show and tell!

Ho Ho Ho!
Jodi

  2. I love the glass bowl filled with Christmas cookie cutters as well as the adorable gingerbread house, not to mention the lovely way you have stocked each of the shelves of your kitchen hutch; Just Perfect Jodi! And seeing your sweet display of seasonal treats is definitely putting me in the mood for a Bing Crosby "White Christmas" :)

  6. This hutch looks like Christmas is already here. I love everything and especially the gingerbread house. (Do people actually eat gingerbread houses in real life scale?)

    1. Thanks, Marilyn! You are so right! We do tend to plan early, and I hope I have planned early enough! I keep meaning to take on small projects, but somehow I seem to complicate things and take way longer than expected. I better start my small autumn house in December! :O)

  8. Hello Jodi,
Only 122 days to go! Yay! I just love the hutch! The colors are all perfect and the piece feels very festive. The gingerbread house and the jars of candy are me favorites. Great job finishing the furniture as well. I cant wait to see more.
    Big ho ho ho hug,

    1. Thanks, Giac! My parents didn't buy what they called "junk" growing up, but my grandma sure did! She had every new kind of candy, pop and all the home baked goodies a kid could salivate over. Her name was Eleanor, and this kitchen is my interpretation of the magic I experienced in hers. I have no hope of grandchildren for a long time, but if it ever happens, I know the magic I'll create for them!
Big ho ho ho hugs back! :O)

  10. The smell of gingerbread is in the air and strains of "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" fill the kitchen as the cook busily works...what a lovely display of festive goodies you have arranged on this dresser. So many pretty things to admire and add to the festive air that permeates a home at that very special time of year...very beautifully done! Cheers, Alayne

    1. Thanks Alayne! I'm so glad that you enjoy it, too! At 28 & 30, neither of my kids is into decorating anymore. They don't seem to want to give me grandkids either! At least this way, I can enjoy the Christmas magic any time I like, and it's much less work to put away by myself! :O)

  11. I love this! It's the height of summer at Christmas time over here so we don't get to enjoy the wintery wonder that is a Northern Hemisphere Christmas.. One day!:D
I love your candy jars, did you make the little candies? They are adorable! And the Gingerbread house too? Love the little jug of utensils and the measuring spoons hung on the side. Christmas at your Grandma's house sounds like it was a delight!

  12. Thanks, Sam! I remember the first time I realized that your seasons and holidays were opposite and thinking how both fun and weird that would be! I dream of one day getting to experience AU, no matter what time of year it is!
I did not make the candies - that would have been a nightmare and would not have ended well, lol! I did assemble and decorate the gingerbread house, and that was great fun!
I mostly just painted stuff, filled stuff and added labels. It was fun to shop for all of the ideas, though! :O)
