Encounters Gifts & Grub

My first project back in the mini world was a replica tourist store and campground that my husband and I had dreamed of owning for years. Since we live in the shadow of Mt. Rainier, our dream business is called Encounters Gifts & Grub. It's a place for tourists on their way to Mt. Rainier National Park to camp, eat, and learn about all things Bigfoot!

Any fun campground has to have spooky campfire stories, and around here, that means bigfoot stories! And because bigfoots are so curious, this one is eavesdropping from behind the trees!

Inside the shop you'll find books, dvd's, t-shirts, cameras, tent and sleeping bag rentals, bumper stickers, tarps, fire logs, flashlights,

There's also a habituation center where you can pick up some apples, peanut butter, glow sticks, wood knockers and bigfoot sighting maps.

And of course if you're hungry, there's lots of delicious grub!

And the friendly carved bigfood greets you at the front door.

This project was the precipice for so many more! I think I am making up for lost time!

  1. Hello Jodi,
What an incredible feast for the eyes. It is an amazing project and the details you have thought of make everything so realistic. The lunch counter is amazing and I love the big foot.

    1. Thanks, Giac! The doll was made by Jo Medvenics. I got to send her eyewitness sketches done by a police sketch artist named Harvey Pratt. She did an amazing job on Enoch, and at 8" tall (translating to 8 feet tall, a commonly reported height for the hairy creatures, he is indeed an imposing figure! I'm glad this one is friendly and only curious!

    1. Thanks, Shannon! I have the property all picked out! There's a lovely old Tudor on it that would be perfect for remodeling into the gift shop. Now, to find the money...

  4. If this is your first project then it clearly indicates, that you have been SUPER TALENTED right from the get-go! VERY IMPRESSIVE work Jodi! :D
and I do believe that your Big Foot is a lot like our Canadian Sasquatch; always hiding somewhere amid the trees and always out of focus in the tourist's photos ! ;)

    1. Thank you, Elizabeth! What this project showed to me is that when you find true joy in something, you were made for doing it. I still love to marvel at it 5 years later! I am so grateful to have miniatures as an expression of the creativity bursting inside me!

    1. Thanks, Christine! I had way more in mind for it too, but I was so limited on space inside and out that I had to settle for an abbreviated version. I may one day donate it to the Bigfoot museum in Willow Creek CA. It would fit right in there!

    1. Thanks, Kristine! I began this in July of 2012, right after I started working from home. Not commuting or working long hours gave me some quality of life back and it went right into miniatures after a dreadful nine year absence from it.
