When You Argue With Yourself, Who Wins?

I have to be completely out of my mind. That's all there is to it. You see, I just finished the garden shed. I have a partially constructed flower shop to finish, not to mention a soap shop that has been sitting idle since November. I have the Creatin' Contest kit just waiting to be started (December: tick, tick, tick) and an advent calendar that kinda needs to be done by December 3rd. Yet instead of working through these projects, I do this...

The kit has been waiting three years
for it's turn...

New parts, new possibilities!

Parts list - so OCD satisfying!

Right now this is exciting but
at some point I am going to hate painting
pieces.
I know better than to argue with myself. Might as well just save time and go with the creative flow!

I love fresh wood, glue and nails!

Kitchen cabinet mock up.
I have the perfect size plywood for the divider wall.
First floor dry fit. I'm full of ideas...
I can cut this opening...

And cut this one...

And fill this one...
Oh trust me. I have asked myself some tough questions... "What about the space it will need to be displayed properly? Where will you put the garden shed and the flower shop/s? Have you forgotten about poor Alki Point? Are you aware that you have two large builds already in your bedroom?". And to myself I say...

See that computer hutch? Those built in shelves?

You've got plenty of space.
You just need to get creative!

And let's not forget my hunky handy handsome husband. The one who brings home tools and shelving material as early Mother's Day gifts and offers to double my display space.

An automagical nailer!

Purdy melamine wall shelf, brackets and lovely edge molding!
My drawer tops will only be for storage now and the shelf for
displaying completed projects!
See I can argue with myself all day but I always, always win.

Real Good Toys New Orleans dollhouse - let's do this!

Hope you're winning all of the arguments, too!

xxx,

Jodi

  2. I have never been able to juggle more than one big project at a time so I admire your biting the bullet and just going for it Jodie! ;D
Your new New Orleans dollhouse project is already taking shape, although I don't envy all of the painting which you have yet to do.

    1. We'll see if I can do it, Elizabeth! I have moved a card table into the room to hold the kit box and all of it's pieces. That way I still have the whole table to stack the little projects as I go. Oh the painting! Don't remind me! I spray painted all of the trim for the Contemporary Ranch kit and that was much easier. I may go that way if I can find a color I like. If not, endless trim painting is in my near future...

  3. Hello Casey,
don't see what's wrong with starting another project...we all do it! It helps to keeping you from getting bored over a project. It is a lovely kit and I can't wait to see you work your magic on it. It was so great to see the miniatures around your house. I just love your work and am glad hubby is there to help give you more space. You can't fight the artist in you, and the artist needs display space!
    Have a wonderful weekend,
    Big hug

    1. Thanks Giac! I have truly come to empathize with folks who have a lot of stuff. At some point, I'll donate the older projects for school auctions etc. to make room for the newly inspired!

    2. Hello Jodi,
Hummm...Why I addressed Casey when I left my last comment on your post I have no idea! Sorry about that, I blame utter madness!
      Have a great week,
      Giac

    3. Hi Giac - no need at all to apologize! To those of us with so much going on in our lives, it easily happens all the time. I forget the most mundane things these days and have resorted to writing everything down. Hope your week is a fantastic one, too!

  4. This will be gorgeous!

I saw a Property Brothers do New Orleans and they had this beautiful tin ceiling with paint over it so it looked gorgeous and worn in the front parlor.

    1. Oooh that sounds neat! I have some misc. materials for the ceilings, but I definitely haven't settled on anything yet. Once I start all of the wiring tho I am going to need to decide. Maybe the tin stuff in the kitchen? Hmmm...

  5. What an awesome husband!! I have to admit mine is pretty good too when I ask him to play dollhouses! And who cares if you have unfinished projects? Every one of mine are unfinished. If you are inspired to work on a particular project, then do so. Otherwise why bother? The hobby is about enjoyment and creativity. You'll come back to the other projects.

I also love the smell of wood, and love the assembly process.... and have a couple of kits waiting for when I can't stand waiting any longer! LOL! I think your Fantastic hubby will make all the storage problems disappear with that "automagical nailer"!! And I really look forward to seeing this kit develop!

  7. You always win either way! I would love to have your space! I have space but the question is how to find more when your walls in attic work room are only 4 feet tall?

  9. It looks like such a great kit Jodi! How could you not?! Can't wait to see what you have planned for it :) And I think most of us understand the challenge of storing and displaying projects. There just is never enough space!!

    1. Thanks Kristine! I have a rough idea for it but will have to see how the details lead me as I go... When Russ and I built this house in 2007 we kept wondering if maybe it was too big for us. Nope! I just need to get better at purposing the space!

  10. Oh, Jodi - I would feel like such a failure if you (and every other miniaturists I know), didn't have a number of projects on the go at the same time. Okay - maybe Elizabeth just has a lot more self-control than the rest of us but, let's face it, that's unusual. When I listen to your self-arguments and see the number of things you are trying to find places for --- I almost feel normal again!!! LOL - Marilyn D., Oromocto, NB, Canada
